Depression

Depression manifests in many ways—from apathy to burnout to major depressive disorder. Regardless of it’s form, it’s often characterized by one or several of the following symptoms:

  • Low mood

  • Lack of energy

  • Irritability

  • Change in appetite

  • Difficulty sleeping, or excess sleep

  • Hopelessness

  • Thoughts like “What if I wasn’t here?” or “It might be easier if I just went away.”

We may naturally ask ourselves: “Where is this coming from?”

You may be experiencing a clinical depression due to a combination of stressors and genetic disposition to Major Depressive Disorder (MDD). You may have what’s called ‘dysphoria,’ a period of low mood brought on by unexpected and/or challenging life circumstances (i.e. work/ academic stress, relationship issues, or global concerns like climate change and political unrest). Or you may be ‘burned out’ from excess work and/or life responsibilities.

The role of therapy is first to help you determine the source of these feelings. You may know exactly where they’re coming from or feel blind-sided by them. Once the cause is determined, we explore your own instincts and resources about what needs to change and how you might go about doing it. And, of course, in addition to collaborating in these conversations, we provide clinical guidance; the insights, skills, and interventions that reduce distress and restore vitality and joy in life.

To learn more about the process of therapy, or more to the point, how we specifically treat depression, call or message us anytime. Our consultations are designed to help demystify counseling and convey—in common sense ways—how therapy helps.
